Programme uniqueness
ISSF is the only EMJM dedicated to insect sciences.
The joint academic curriculum of ISSF offers students a comprehensive and innovative program that addresses through three specialties the roles and solutions provided by insect sciences in agro- and ecosystems, in industry and in health.
The ISSF programme is supported by major scientific institutions recognized for their academic excellence.
Universities of Tours and of Orléans are experts in the field of insects in agro- and ecosystems, with the Insect Biology Research Institute (IRBI) as flagship institute in Tours and three insect iresearch laboratories in Orléans, The Physiology, Ecology, and Environment Laboratory (PEE), the Forest Zoology Research Unit (URZF) and The Forest Ecosystems Research Unit (EFNO). KU Leuven has created a hub for research on insects in industry on its campus in Geel through the Research Group for Insect Production and Processing (IP&P). UNL is world-renowned for its research on vector insects within The Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (IHMT).

The ISSF programme gives access to three unique infrastructures.
- The Insect Canopy Observatory at UT allows to study insect biodiversity in the canopy of temperate forests.
- The Insect Pilot Plan at KU Leuven Geel Kampus allows to train for large-scale insect production and industry application.
- The In Vivo Arthropod Security Facility at UNL grants rare access to insects and their associated pathogens or parasites, for groundbreaking research and training in medical entomology.
