KU Leuven is a multi-campus university, with 12 campuses spread across 9 cities in Flanders. It comprises 18 faculties covering a broad spectrum of disciplines, from humanities and social sciences over science, engineering and technology to biomedical sciences. This decentralized structure allows KU Leuven to connect closely with local communities and industries, fostering collaboration and applied research.

One of these campuses is KU Leuven Geel Campus, located in the green and welcoming city of Geel in the province of Antwerp. The campus combines KU Leuven’s academic excellence with a personal, practice-oriented learning environment. It is home to programmes of the Faculty of Engineering Technology, where education and research bridge the gap between science and industry through hands-on innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Geel Campus provides an inspiring setting for education and research in biosciences, food technology, environmental engineering, and sustainable plant and animal production. Surrounded by agricultural landscapes and an active network of companies and research partners, it offers unique opportunities for applied and industry-oriented research. One of its key research spearheads is insects as food and feed, supported by the state-of-the-art Insect Pilot Plant, where researchers and industry collaborate to develop safe, high-quality insect-based products and processes for a more sustainable food system.
